Weekend Away Photoset

Lachie and I went away for the weekend. We talked to people who knew the Wairarapa when it was industrious, we walked for hours and then lounged in the afternoon sun. Thanks to Ellena and Capbell and Nina.

Groom Barbers

I haven't paid for a haircut since 2008. I like to do that shit myself ~ and I'm usually pretty good at it too! But  over the weekend, the extent of my self-hairdressing expertise was unsuccessful and I needed professional help. Groom Barbers on Tinakori Road in Thorndon sorted me out. I had never been to a barbers before, it was much cheaper compared regular Wellington salons. The stylist there was really nice and skilled, she set me up with a handsome ass cut.
Groom Barbers are situated just down the road from my whare, later in the afternoon ~ I went back and asked if I could take some pictures. The following set were shot on my new Canon which I'm still getting used to as I have been a Nikon-gal since forever but ye, here are the results:

banal and spectacular nationalism

Today's look is brought to you by the notions of banal and spectacular nationalism, of which I have been learning about at uni this week. I live in Aotearoa/ New Zealand but I find it easier to dress in quasi-Americana as opposed to Kiwiana. Possibly everyday I am dressed in Kiwiana, I'm not sure. Devon came over for dinner tonight and was wearing her Elvis t-shirt because it is the 35th anniversary of his death (and also because it is awesome and she got it in GRACELAND) so I will also attribute my U.S. look to a psychic knowing of things to do with Elvis on this day.

Red, white and blue. Looking quite blue there, cheer up guy.

This brow lasted most of the day and was created with a $2 eye pencil which was purchased at Halloween (another very U.S. notion) to create zombie veins. I wanted glittery eyebrows but the only look I was able to achieve was that of sparkly psoriasis, I am happy with this more muted look - comparatively.

I can not wear lipstick for more than ten minutes, I'm not into anything that makes me second guess putting food into my mouth.

And a Lana Del Ray track to close the festivities -  Sarah

Sport and death.

Oooh that is a bit of a dark post title. I am really interested in sports culture and have a bit of a penchant for the macabre. This is probably best summed up the cake my partner made me for my birthday a few years ago:

A grey cake with roller skate icing and skull candles with glitter eyes. This really sums me up as a  person.

Below is a sweet eight minute doco about sports fans whose families uphold their fandom after their death.
