skulls

I just finished this! My sister found two skulls on my Uncle and Aunt's block of land and thankfully gifted them to me. Cow skulls are BIG and have always been too bulky for me to bother with them, but this has turned out pretty ace. This was all made with felt tips.

This is a smaller sheep skull that is coming back to Wellington with me - it is going to be glittered up all nice.

Tablecloth Thrills

I am back in Whakatane and am having a thrifty time. Tablecloths are on the agenda this time around, I have already found three beauties and will go hunting for more this week. This was only one dollar - yusssss!

Record Haul - part II

I too, get into a bit of the ol' vinyl collecting the these were the last three gems that I picked up a few weeks ago. Lightnin' Hopkin 'Country Blues' from Rough Peel Music is real cool and makes me do happy dancing.

This Andrew Lloyd Webber Premiere Collection was in the bargain bins at RPM and I got it for a steal for only $5. My parents had this record and when my sister and I were really young we would put this on and scream around the lounge. Very nostalgic times - this is now my go-to house cleaning music.

1980's head shots.

The best and most awesome record I found over the last few weeks is a brand new Dr. Dre '2001'. My cousin Tylee brought this record to my house when we were teens and it prompted a full blown lecture about the dangers of drugs by Professor Dad. I remember it so vividly ~ the opening sentence was "this is a picture of a Marijuana leaf!". He must be a good parent because the album cover still sparks an adverse reaction inside my brain.
I have been searching for this for years and they had it stocked at JB hi-fi?! The record also had a voucher for an MP3 download of the album - very very very cool.

be Stevie Nicks (and Tavi Gevinson)

I got the chance a couple of years ago to see Stevie Nicks with my own eyeballs. Fleetwood Mac came to New Zealand and Lach and I road tripped to see them. Ever since I was little, my Mom has engrained in me the notion that Stevie Nicks is the coolest (which also, I think, makes Mumsy consequently cool).

Tavi Gevinson is also cool. She is the founder of Rookie Mag and she also sites Nicks as an inspiration. Check out her TED Talk, "Still Figuring it Out" :

Record Haul

The other day Sarah and I went record shopping. I managed to find a 6 record boxed set of live Elvis recordings in the bargain bin, along with a Slim Whitman record ( I think maybe I am the only person who likes Slim Whitman? I am impressed with yodelling.) Slipped in between two of the records in the Elvis set was this lovely studio portrait of young, handsome Elvis. I am going to get it framed and hang it above my bed.

Flower Crown: Expectation vs Reality

I discovered Rookie Mag during the week which encouraged my obsession with 90's teen culture. They have a fun tutorial entitled "Crown of Love" and after watching it, I went hunting for my glue gun.

Flower crowns. I probably should have pointed my ambitions towards Frida Kahlo rather than trying to look like Lana Del Rey but this week I attempted to make a Flower Crown. Devon and I went shopping for fun stuff to stick to headbands and I thought instead of going with pretty little white Baby's Breath~ I'll just go the whole hog and go for giant bright yellow Dahlia-style ones.

Instead of this:

I ended up most of the way to this:

Oh well, I hope Devon managed to do a better job!

Serving up Big Bird realness.
PS I don't exactly have my femme clothes on today either!?

woven chain bracelet

These Aurelie Biedermann woven chain bracelets caught my eye when they first came about - I can't really afford to spend £231.22 on gold plated jewellery at the moment! Awesomely ~ Honestly WTF made a super easy to follow tutorial on how to replicate this very look.

http://honestlywtf.com/diy/diy-woven-chain-bracelet/

I was given a beautiful hand crafted silver chain bracelet for my 21st - I only wear it on special occasions so this would be a way to revamp it for everyday use. Another reason I don't wear it very often is for the fear of it scratching my watch - having a cotton buffer is the most perfect addition!

So this is the final product, made with the rag-tag bunch of cotton I had in my sewing box. My next purchase will be black embroidery thread - so I can make an evening version.
